On this short trip to Chengdu, I chose The Hidden House(Chengdu Taikoo Li & Hejiangting)) as my destination. I took the subway from the landing Shuangliu Airport to Line 2 to Dongmen Bridge Station, walked 800 meters, dragged my suitcase under the wutong tree in old Chengdu, and saw the hotel door on the third floor of the Business Building in less than ten minutes. The location of the hotel was quiet in the middle of the noise, which indicated the need of me, a perennial business traveler.
When checking in, the details at the front desk were very pleasing to the eye. They reserved a quiet room on the inner side for me in advance and even handed me a refreshing Chengdu style sour plum soup, which swept away the heat of my busy schedule. The layout of the room is completely free from the rigidity of a chain business hotel. The warm wooden furniture is paired with light colored soft furnishings, and the small tea table by the window is just enough to hold my laptop. After finishing work, I can look up and see the fine sunlight leaking in from the window, even relaxing my tense nerves. The fluffiness of the bedding is just right. After a day of running around and lying down, even the usual feeling of sleeping on a business trip has been greatly reduced. The dry and wet separation in the bathroom is done thoroughly, and the matching toiletries have a faint fragrance of plants and trees. After taking a shower, the whole person feels refreshed.
What surprised me the most was the location advantage of the hotel. It takes only ten minutes to walk downstairs and immerse oneself in the fireworks of Taikoo Li. After driving during the day, one can take a turn and stroll to the red wall of Daci Temple. In the evening, walk along the Jinjiang River to Jiuyan Bridge, swaying slowly with the river breeze to reach Anshun Corridor Bridge. Just in time for the moment when the lights are on, there is no need to plan a route, and one can directly immerse themselves in Chengdu's nightlife. If you want to experience the slow pace of old Chengdu, you can walk for more than ten minutes to the Heming Tea House in People's Park. Order a cup of tea and sit for an afternoon. You can also turn around and enter the nearby Kuixing Tower Street to check in the spicy skewers and sugar oil fruits one by one.
The free parking and multifunctional hall provided by the hotel also surprised me a lot. This time, my colleague drove the car and didn't have to wander around in the vicinity of Taikoo Li to find a parking space. The small business meeting that needed to be held temporarily could be done in the multifunctional hall without having to find an extra venue to tinker with. In the past few days of living, I had a bowl of authentic Chengdu vegetarian chili noodles downstairs in the morning, and when I came back in the evening, the front desk would kindly remind me of the nearest riverside walking route. There was no excessive disturbance in the service, but there was a perfect amount of thoughtfulness everywhere.
I used to feel like I was rushing to check in when I came to Chengdu, but this time I stayed at The Hidden House(Chengdu Taikoo Li & Hejiangting)) and truly experienced the relaxation of 'living in Chengdu'. I don't have to travel long distances between attractions and hotels, and I can catch the spiciness and tenderness of this city with just one foot.
